The Industrial Agitator is a rotating machine designed to promote the mixing, homogenization or agitation of products in liquid phase. In summary, agitators consist of a rotating shaft with mixing elements, called impellers.
The other components of an agitator are the motor, the reduction system, the sealing system mounted on a pedestal and the flange or base plate support. In order to offer the best operational performance for each type of process (simple mixture, solids suspension, heat transfer and mass transfer), with energy savings and high pumping efficiency, SEMCO offers several types of impellers, developed to meet the most varied types of application.
Agitators can be mounted on the side, top or bottom of tanks. They can also be manufactured in different types of materials, according to the needs of each client.
Side entry agitators are agitators mounted horizontally on the side of tanks. They are normally used in large volume storage tanks and are applied to keep products homogeneous, not allowing stratifications or phase separation. As with bottom agitators, the sealing system must be perfectly selected according to the application and, more than ever since they operate in large volume tanks, its mandatory a system that can allow the maintenance of the equipment without emptying the tank “(SHUT-OFF system)”.
The vertical agitators have the drive system mounted vertically on the tank, and can be installed perpendicular or inclined to the tank top cover. They represent the vast majority of the existing agitators, with perpendicular assembly being the most usual. For small tanks, the inclined mounting is commonly used to avoid the installation of baffles (internal deflectors of the tanks).
Vertical bottom agitators are vertical agitators mounted on the bottom of tanks. Their application is restricted, being used in cases where the operation takes place in tanks of great cylindrical height or in those where there is no space available for installation of agitator in its top. Due to its mounting position, its construction is complex, requiring a safe sealing system, and a device to allow the maintenance of the sealing without the need to empty the tank.
